Beam Position Monitors

BPM

  • Few NSLS beamlines are equipped with beam position diagnostics
  • Existing designs are not a good match to NSLS dipole beamlines
  • We designed a segmented transmission ion chamber to solve this problem
  • 4-quadrant transmission ion chamber lithographically formed on aluminized mylar
  • 4 low-noise op-amps used as electrometers + 4 op-amps as line buffers
  • Feeds 4 ADC channels in VME
  • Same cell, with pulse-processing amplifiers is used at SLAC for single-shot beam position recording
