Machine Status

Both rings are running well.

The x-ray ring will switch over to 30 bunch mode (from the current
25 bunch mode) shortly.

Water - Emil Zitvogel

The water systems will be switched over to the site chilled water
supply at 0800 hrs on Thursday 10/8/09. The water systems will be switched
back to the NSLS system, the next day, on Friday afternoon. This is a test
to determine if there will be any thermal or pressure variations between the
two supplies. The plan is to use the site system during the upcoming
shutdown. Users on both rings are encouraged to observe and report any
issues to the Control Room.

NSLS II Construction – Soil Compacting

The large compactor may be in operation in the NW corner of the site
10/5/09 - 10/9/09 and 10/12/09 - 10/16/09.

Nobel Prize

Lisa Miller pointed out that Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, a former BNL employee,
just received the Nobel prize in Chemistry, for his work on the ribosome.
Much of the data for his research was collected and analyzed here at the NSLS.
