Soil Compacting and Vibration at the NSLS-II Site

Steve Sawch (NSLS-II) and Brian Peters (Torcon) explained the ongoing soil
compacting occurring at the NSLS-II site. It is anticipated that the compacting
activity at NW corner of the site may affect (with vibrations) the experimental
floor since this is the part closest to NSLS. This activity is scheduled to go on
for 3 years from May 2009 but compacting at the NW corner of the construction site
is scheduled from May to September 2009. The activity involves the use of a 10-Ton
roller machine almost on a daily basis. The compacting activity is scheduled from
7am to 3pm on certain days in the period May-September 2009 and is not done on rainy
days. Steve will provide us with a schedule.

Steve said the compacting cannot be rescheduled for days when there is no beam and
cannot be done in a direction which might minimize vibrations at the NSLS.

ALL construction delivery/heavy vehicles will use the south gate of the construction site.

Proper Attire on NSLS Experimental Floor

Only long pants and closed-toe shoes (no sandals) are allowed on the
experimental floor.
