Postdoctoral Research Associate - National Synchrotron Light Source seeks a Research Associate to participate in Ultra-fast Electron Diffraction (UED), THz and FEL experiments at the NSLS Source Development Lab (SDL), and perform both simulation and experimental investigation of electron beam optimization for UED and FEL. Under the direction of X.J. Wang Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in physics or related discipline with specialty in accelerator physics and experience in accelerator simulation and operation. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with simulation codes for linacs and FELs desirable (such as PARMELA, ELEGANT, GENESIS or equivalents). Experience in laser operation is desirable. Postdoctoral Research Associate (4533) - Requires a Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, physics or a related field. Experience with infrared microspectroscopy, x-ray absorption spectroscopy, and/or x-ray fluorescence microprobe is required, preferably in the field of life and/or environmental sciences. Experience with cell culture, tissue histology, synchrotron optics, multivariate data analysis methods, and/or IDL programming languages is highly desirable. The responsibility of this position will be: 1) to carry out research involving the study of protein misfolding and metal accumulation in neurological protein-folding diseases using synchrotron-based infrared and x-ray microspectroscopic techniques in conjunction with classical biochemical methods; 2) provide scientific and technical support to researchers at a NSLS infrared beamline; and 3) to participate in the development of new beamline capabilities.
