Purpose and Scope
Brookhaven National Laboratory's Office of Educational Programs (OEP) and the National Synchrotron Light Source (NSLS) are developing a consortium of Historically Black Colleges and University (HBCU) professors to provide NSLS access to HBCU faculty. A kickoff workshop for this consortium will be held at Brookhaven National Laboratory this summer.
This program has three objectives:
- To expose HBCU research faculty to NSLS science
- To enhance the research capabilities of HBCU faculty
- To assist in developing competitive proposals enabling consortium members to become independent users at the NSLS
Agenda
The workshop will consist of introductory lectures on synchrotron science, techniques, and operations. Hands-on experimental activities will be offered to participants using a variety of beamlines. Additionally, there will be a writing tutorial focused on the development of competitive beamtime proposals for independent research at the NSLS.
Intended Audience
The workshop is open to all tenured or tenure-track faculty at an HBCU.
Cost
Transportation, housing, and meals will be provided by Brookhaven National Laboratory.
