Guests, Users, and Visitors Center Accepting NSLS User Registration Soon

First announced about a year ago, NSLS users will soon be able to complete physical check-in at the new Guests, Users, and Visitors (GUV) Center located in the Research Support Building (Building 400) on Brookhaven Avenue diagonally across from Berkner Cafeteria. Currently, NSLS users still need to check in at the User Administration Office on the second floor of the NSLS upon arrival at BNL. But it is expected that on or shortly after October 1, NSLS users will be able to register at the GUV Center instead, as other guests, contractors, and users of other BNL facilities are now doing. A message to all users will be issued when the exact date is finalized.

The check-in process can be completed at the GUV Center Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. It is hoped that hours on Sundays will be added soon. Check-in will include everything that is currently done at the User Administration Office:

  • Finalizing appointments
  • Verifying documentation
  • Ensuring training is complete
  • Obtaining signatures
  • Maintaining user records

Users will also be able to obtain their permanent badge during check-in, since the BNL Badging Office is directly across the hall from the GUV Center. Other needs that can be taken care of in this same area are:

  • Housing
  • Credit Union/Cashier
  • Transportation
  • Training, if not completed ahead of time

After this transition, the NSLS User Administration Office will remain in place to pre-process registrations prior to physical check-in, and for other user functions including the proposal system, beamline agreements, workshop and meeting planning, statistical reporting, and all other requirements and user questions.
