Analysis of Work Attire Requirements Continues

Last month, in response to the DOE Integrated Safety Management audit at BNL, the Laboratory Director issued a memorandum reinforcing the requirements of long pants, long-sleeve shirts, and closed-toe shoes in laboratory and industrial areas at BNL. This applies to all staff, visitors, contractors, and users.

Analysis of these attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements on the NSLS experiment floor continues. An NSLS task force has been assembled and has now met twice. A BNL task force has also been created and the NSLS has a voice in that group.

The BNL task force has provided recommendations applicable to required attire for tour groups and to the general long-sleeve shirt requirement. Clarification on these issues is expected from BNL management soon.

The NSLS task force is working on a task-specific analysis of PPE requirements. This will provide the basis for requirements that will be implemented over the next few weeks. For now, please be patient and know that we are working to resolve these issues and will keep you informed of our progress.
