Number: LS-ESH-PRM-2.4.0
Section: EXHAUST VENTILATION
Date: 03/30/07
Revision: 1
Prepared by: N. Gmür, A. Ackerman
Approved by: Chi-Chang Kao (Department Chairman)

1. Purpose

The purpose of this procedure is to provide the National Synchrotron Light Source Department (NSLS) with guidance for exhaust ventilation and to also provide a location for the NSLS emissions inventory (see Attachment). This NSLS procedure is supplemental to the BNL SBMS Exhaust Ventilation Subject Area and the Non-Radioactive Airborne Emissions Subject Area. This subject area should be consulted for a detailed overview of the BNL Exhaust Ventilation Program to prevent emissions of air contaminants that can be detrimental to the safety or health of any person or that can cause damage to Laboratory or private property.

New or modified sources shall be communicated to the Non-Radioactive Airborne Emissions subject matter expert through the NSLS Environmental Compliance Representative as per the requirements of the subject area. The sources shall be evaluated and the emissions inventory updated, as needed.

2. Scope

This procedure applies to all NSLS hoods and exhaust ventilation systems used for industrial hygiene purposes.
