Brookhaven National Laboratory will host a workshop on July 17, 2007 to update the user community on the status and plans for NSLS-II and to provide an opportunity for user input and feedback.

One of the goals of this workshop is to describe the conceptual design and current status of the facility. Workshop participants will learn the latest details on the designs of the accelerator, experimental, and conventional facilities. Dr. Patricia Dehmer, Director of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Basic Energy Sciences, will provide the DOE perspective on NSLS-II.

A second key goal of this workshop will be to describe the process of beamline development, including plans for new beamlines and the relocation of beamlines and programs from the NSLS to NSLS-II. We want to ensure that NSLS-II beamlines are diverse and of high quality, and both exploit the unique capabilities of NSLS-II and meet the scientific needs of the NSLS user community.

We’ll also discuss plans for the transition from NSLS and NSLS-II, as the NSLS-II project progresses toward operations and the NSLS looks to conclude three decades of outstanding operations.

For more information about the workshop and NSLS-II, including the Conceptual Design Report, please see http://www.bnl.gov/nsls2/workshops/UserWorkshop.asp.

As always, I look forward to hearing your input on these important issues. See you in July!
