Science Advisory Committee Announcement
March 8, 2010
Dear All,
I'm very pleased to announce the membership of the new Light Sources Directorate Science Advisory Committee (SAC).
The SAC will provide advice on all scientific and policy issues related to the full and effective use of NSLS and NSLS-II and on future developments required to achieve the highest possible scientific productivity of both facilities.
Here is the list of all 16 members and their institutions:
Simon Bare, UOP
Murray Gibson, Advanced Photon Source at Argonne National Laboratory
Ernie Hall, General Electric Global Research
Jerry Hastings, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
Russell Hemley, Carnegie Institution of Washington
John Hemminger, University of California, Irvine
Keith Hodgson, SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory
Leemor Joshua-Tor, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory
Steve Kevan, University of Oregon
Sine Larsen, University of Copenhagen
Gerd Materlik, Diamond Light Source
Simon Mochrie, Yale University
Harald Reichert, European Synchrotron Radiation Facility
Janet Smith, University of Michigan
Friso van der Veen, Swiss Light Source
Pierre Wiltzius, University of California, Santa Barbara
Keith Hodgson will serve as SAC Chair.
As you can see, the membership has a good balance of national/international and academic/national lab/industrial representation, as well as a wide range of scientific disciplines and techniques. In order to provide continuity, the SAC also includes a few scientists from each of the previous NSLS SAC and NSLS-II Experimental Facilities Advisory Committee, and from the NSLS-II Project Advisory Committee (which continues with an updated charter and membership).
I would like to thank everyone that provided suggestions and advice on forming this new committee.
The new SAC is a very distinguished and experienced group. It will be an excellent committee, and I am sure we will benefit enormously from their advice.
Steve
