Required Training

For the minimum training requirements, find your appropriate classification below. Training requirements include one or more Job Training Assessments (JTAs). JTAs and associated training courses are listed at the BNL Training Website. Click on the link and the JTA(s) listed below for the list of required training courses.

NSLS Employees

Resident Beamline Staff

Resident Beamline Staff are assigned to one or more beamlines to provide scientific or technical support on a long-term basis. Resident beamline staff members include Local Contacts, Scientific Staff, and Technical Staff from NSLS, other BNL Departments, or other institutions.


ESH Briefing

Everyone working at the NSLS long-term (3 months or more on a continual basis) will receive a detailed ESH orientation from the NSLS ESH Coordinator. The NSLS ESH Briefing is a checklist with additional handouts. The briefing is scheduled and entered on the New Employee/Guest Orientation Form.

The NSLS ESH briefing can be conducted by any of the following NSLS personnel, in this order of preference:

  • ESH Coordinator
  • Safety Officer

Access to the NSLS

The Contractor's BNL ID card (if one is issued) will only be encoded for access to the NSLS after completion of the NSLS ESH Briefing and radiological training at the GERT level or above. Please contact NSLS User Administration for encoding.

Please contact your supervisor and/or the NSLS Training Coordinator with any questions about your training requirements. As your job roles change, please contact the Training Coordinator to ensure your activities and associated training requirements are appropriately assessed.
