Purpose:
To ensure that facility users are trained for access for the experimental
floor. This procedure is to define how to process users who are unable to
pass the BNL General Employee Radiological Training (TQ-GERT) exam.
Procedure:
3rd Unsuccessful Exam >> Remediation or Escort: If the user
is unable to pass the exam on the third attempt, follow the procedures
below.
Remediation:
- User must have already passed the LS-ESH-SAFETY safety module.
- User Administration or the GUV Center provides user with a copy of the GERT study
guide. BNL and the NSLS each offer a study guide online:
- User Administration or the GUV Center contacts one of the following staff members (in
the following order) to review the requirements of the course with the
user:
- An interpreter may be enlisted to review the subject matter with the
user.
- Discussing
exam questions during this review is not permitted.
- After remediation, the staff member who met with the user contacts
the BNL Training Office to re-open the course for one
additional attempt to pass the exam.
- The study guide (if provided) is to be removed from the exam
location.
- If the user is unable to pass the exam on the 4th attempt, the rules
for escort access only must be followed.
Escort access only:
- User may be issued a BNL badge, but the badge cannot be
encoded for access to the NSLS experimental floor or any other
radiologically-controlled area.
- User is not to be issued a temporary access card.
- User must be under full escort while on the experimental
floor. Access to the experimental floor cannot exceed three days
in a year and cannot exceed a total of
8 hours on each day.
- User cannot perform any hands-on work. User is permitted to
observe and consult.
- User Administration informs the Local Contact of the
beamline where the user will be working of the restrictions
listed above.
- User Administration or the GUV Center informs Training Coordinator to adjust JTA from NSLS User to BNL Guest only.
