Workshop 3

"Soft X-Rays: Polarization Sensitive Measurements Using Resonant Soft X-Rays"

Date: Monday, May 21. 2007

Organizer(s):

Sujoy Roy (Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Laboratory)
Cecilia Sanchez-Hanke (National Synchrotron Light Source, BNL) hanke@bnl.gov

Location: Bldg. 510, Physics, Large Seminar Room

Description:

The scope of this workshop will focus on different techniques using x-ray resonant interactions to uncover properties of materials. This workshop will explore the state of the art of the experiments using soft x-rays analyzing the results considering the polarization of the incoming radiation. Attendees may be familiar with the possibilities of Magnetic Circular Dichroism (MCD), but this is just a small aspect of the potential that the study and the analysis of the polarization will bring in the future, not only in the soft x-rays but also in other energy ranges.
In the workshop we will provide an overview about the current experiments using polarized soft x-rays. But with the development of the new x-rays sources towards providing polarized soft x-rays we would like to analyze new directions that could use circularly and linearly-polarized soft x-rays.
Attendees are welcome to contribute to the workshop, please contact the workshop organizer, Cecilia Sánchez-Hanke, hanke@bnl.gov.
