"X-ray Diffraction Studies of Iron Alloys at High Pressures and Temperatures"

Andrew Campbell, University of Maryland

Determination of melting curves and other high pressure, high temperature phase boundaries requires (1) detection of the phase transition and (2) measurement of the pressure and temperature. Application of x-ray diffraction methods to high-p,T phase transition studies will be presented, using Fe-X binary systems as examples. These iron-rich systems have important applications to understanding the Earth's core.
